Grand Opening for Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary

In Porter County, the Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary celebrated a grand opening this past Saturday September 21st. The nonprofit Porterco Conservation Trust has transformed Chesterton’s former town dump into a sanctuary for migratory and resident birds as well as public park area. The sanctuary off south 11st Street spans about forty acres, including Griffin Lake, and most of the area is wetland. A post at their Facebook page also says they are staffed primarily by volunteers, with help from various local entities and private contributions.
