In west-central Indiana, work is set to begin this week on a new shelter for the Humane Society of Greater Lafayette. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Tuesday afternoon for the new location, which is at the former site of the Tippecanoe County Cooperative Extension Service. The public is invited to attend, with treats being offered for humans and their four-legged friends. Once completed, the shelter will have adoption services, kennels, an exercise area for animals, and will serve up to 145 cats and 70 dogs
