There are new laws regarding plastic items on both coasts. As of New Year’s Day, restaurants and bars in Rhode Island can no longer give out single-use plastic straws unless a customer requests one. Out west, plastic utensils, plastic bags, and polystyrene containers are now a thing of the past at restaurants in Palm Springs, California. As of January 1st, those items are banned at businesses that provide on-site or takeout dining service. Plastic straws and stirrers, and Styrofoam cups are also included in the ordinance.
