Composting is a resourceful method for recycling organic materials such as leaves and grass clippings, which create a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Compost can improve lawn and garden health, reduce soil erosion, keep waste out of landfills, and create carbon rich soil, the announcement from the district said.
Residents can also drop off items such as household recyclables (cardboard, glass bottles, aluminum/tin, plastic tubs, jugs and bottles), electronics, plastic bags and books for recycling at these two compost sites. Visit PorterCountyRecycling.org or call 219-465-3694 for more information.
