First Phase of Indiana Toll Road Rehab Project to Begin Next Week

Construction activity with the first phase of a 200 million dollar investment project on the Indiana Toll Road is scheduled to begin next week.  ITR Concession Company reports the two-year reconstruction project that rehabilitates and upgrades more than 70-miles of roadway from Lake Station to Elkhart, known as the 80/90 PUSH (Pavement Upgrade for a Superior Highway) Project, will begin next week starting at milepost 22 in Lake Station through milepost 30 near State Road 49/Calumet Avenue.  Work zones will also occur from milepost 41 to milepost 50 in the La Porte area.

The full project involves the rehabilitation of 73 miles of pavement, including shoulders and ramps as needed; the rehabilitation of 53 bridges; and the installation of a fiber optic cable to support Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).  It is the largest project undertaken by the Toll Road since its original construction in 1954.

ITRCC urges everyone to stay alert and please obey posted construction zone speed limits to maintain a safe environment for construction workers and travelers.  The majority of the work will be completed one lane at a time, allowing the other lane to remain open to traffic to minimize traffic disruptions and travel delays.
